Former India pacer Irfan Pathan has taken a cheeky dig at Pat Cummins and his Australian team for asking the DRS about an umpire review. Pathan expressed surprise at Cummins’ behavior and reminded them that it was not 2008.
The 2008 Test series between Australia and India is notorious for its controversial refereeing decisions that cost India the series. During the course of the series, there was an incident when Michael Clarke caught Sourav Ganguly and Australian captain Ricky Ponting pointed at the umpire.
Surprisingly, the umpire did not bother to send the ball upstairs and immediately took it out after Ponting’s signal. Later, it was found that the ball bounced on its way to the player but it did not matter as Ganguly had already been dismissed.

Irfan Pathan tears into Pat Cummins for asking the DRS to review the ruling
Irfan Pathan referred to this particular incident and criticized Australia captain Pat Cummins for not complying with the third umpire’s decision. While speaking on Star Sports while on commentary, Pathan expressed his views and claimed that Australia believes they are still in 2008.
“Pat Cummins is asking the DRS to review the ruling. Australia believes this is 2008. No, no, no, this is not 2008,” Irfan Pathan said.

What is the whole controversy?
It happened early in the fourth day when Pat Cummins bowled a full ball outside off and Mohammed Siraj tried to play it. It flew off the outside edge to Steve Smith at second slip and he took the catch. The Australian team was so convinced they were out that they tried to go back to the dressing room to prepare for the next innings as it was the last wicket.
However, the third umpire ruled that Siraj was not out much to the dismay of Pat Cummins and Australia. Cummins was clearly not pleased and was even seen pointing to the DRS for the ruling. However, the ruling did not allow Cummins to review the third umpire’s decision.
It was very different from Pat Cummins who is usually calm in these situations and doesn’t react that way. But emotions got the better of him this time and the players were forced to regain their positions again. It was a close decision but the ball appeared to hit the ground after hitting the edge of the racket.
Nitish Kumar Reddy’s knock takes India to 369
The final wicket for India finally fell in the next over in the form of Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was dismissed by Nathan Lyon for 114 off 189 balls. Reddy hit 11 fours and 1 six during this knock which will remain etched in his memory forever.
It was his maiden Test hundred and it came on an occasion as big as the Boxing Day Test at a time when his team needed him most. Reddy’s knock took India to 369, however, Australia took a 105-run lead in the first innings.
