Former Australia national cricket team players Mark Waugh and Michael Hussey have been involved in a huge controversy over the dismissal of Rishabh Pant in the ongoing fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. The goalkeeper made a strange comeback and caused a lot of criticism.
Rishabh Pant has become a huge talking point over his dismissal in the ongoing fourth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The goalie came out while trying to play a wild shot, especially when the team was in trouble.
Rishabh Pant did a great job at the start of day three as the keeper played very defensively in the first hour. He put in all the hard work but wasted it all with the way he walked out. He played an errant shot against Scott Boland as the India national cricket team lost by six wickets.
Scott Bolland went around the wicket and bowled a full ball around it. Rishabh Pant crouched low and tried to scoop the spin. He got a top edge and the ball flew to third man, where Nathan Lyon caught the ball safely as he returned to the hut after scoring 28 runs.
That was a terrible shot when his team needed him to make an innings – Mark Waugh on the wicket of Rishabh Pant
Mark Waugh has come under fire for Rishabh Pant’s ‘awful shot’. He said that although the batsman plays an aggressive brand of cricket, he needs to have some boundaries with the shots he plays. Speaking on Fox Cricket, he explained:
“It’s a terrible shot when his team needed him to make plays. I understand he’s an aggressive player, and I want to see him aggressive, but you still have to put some limits on the shots you play. There has to be a level of restraint and the percentages are in your favor and that shot falls“.
I don’t want him to change his game – Michael Hussey backs Rishabh Pant
However, Michael Hussey came out in support of Rishabh Pant, saying that the batsman is at his best when he is clear, free and playing his natural way. He said he was disappointed with the goalkeeper’s shot but he had to keep playing. He explained:
“It’s a tough situation because it’s not a great shot and it’s not a great look, especially for an Indian team that is looking to fight hard. But you don’t want to put doubt in his mind, he is at his best when he is clear and clear.” “Free and playing his natural way, I will be disappointed with the shot, and I’m sure he will be disappointed with the shot, but I don’t want him to change the way he plays.”
That’s why you’re not a head coach, just an assistant coach – Mark Waugh at Michael Hussey
Hussey also stated that if he were a coach, he would accept the player going out like this. This caused Mark Wu to skate over to him, saying that this was why he was the assistant coach and not the head coach. He added:
“That’s why you’re not a head coach, just an assistant coach.”
Michael Hussey was part of Chennai Super Kings’ support team in the IPL. He also served as assistant coach for the England men’s team in their victorious 2022 T20 World Cup campaign.
