Team India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has urged skipper Rohit Sharma to review the late decision against Scott Boland in Australia’s second innings of the Boxing Day Test match. However, Rohit Sharma, who seemed unconvinced, laughed at Rishabh Pant’s insistence and walked away without review.
Australia pacers Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon troubled the Indian bowlers by batting for the last wicket in the second over on Sunday, December 29. Boland and Lyon added an unbeaten 55 off 110 balls for the final wicket. They finished the day at 228/9, with Lyon (41) and Boland (10).

The incident occurred on the second ball of the 76th over when Ravindra Jadeja bowled to Scott Boland. Rishabh Pant appealed for his arrest and tried to convince Rohit Sharma to conduct a review. However, Rohit decided not to do so, and replays confirmed that there was a clear gap between bat and ball.

Jasprit Bumrah is the pick of the bowlers for India in the second innings
Earlier, Indian fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah (4-56) and Mohammed Siraj (3-66) dismantled Australia’s middle order, turning the match in India’s favor after the hosts dominated the first two days. However, the Australian team lost 4 wickets for 11 runs in just 22 balls, including Bumrah’s 200th wicket.
Marnus Labuschagne (70 runs off 139 balls) and Pat Cummins (41 off 90) stabilized the innings with a 57-run partnership. Leon and Boland then escaped 17 times during the evening session. Team India had a difficult day on the field, committing several errors, including dropping the ball and getting the ball sent off.
Rishabh Pant’s foul while playing the attacking shot – Sanjay Manjrekar
Rishabh Pant, known for his strong Test record in Australia, was expected to be one of India’s top performers in this series. However, he has been a huge disappointment so far, managing just 124 runs in six innings at an average of 20.67. His highest score of 37 came in the first innings of the Perth Test.
Sanjay Manjrekar believes Pant cannot afford to miss when trying unorthodox shots. Manjrekar said that Pant’s defense was strong in this series, but he got out while playing an attacking shot. He stressed that dangerous shots must be executed well, because mistakes lead to questioning.
“In this series, we have seen Rishabh Pant get out while defending a few times, not while playing shots like that. The knock we saw today, his defense was excellent. As Deep Dasgupta said, he was playing late and focusing on his defence. Then he made a mistake while playing an attacking shot,” he said.
“I always believe that if you are doing something different, you should not make a mistake. When we first saw Pant in his first few Tests, he used to come out like this while playing such big knocks, and I remember I then said that if you play like this,” Manjrekar added. Risky shots, play them right, because if you go out, everyone outside will wonder what you did.”
