Oakland police are investigating a BART police cruiser crash that left several people injured


A crash between two police vehicles injured several people in Oakland, California, on Saturday, according to law enforcement officials.

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) told Fox News Digital that the incident occurred in the 700 block of Mandela Parkway, near the West Oakland train station. Pictures from the scene showed destroyed police cars with their windows smashed and their doors open, along with debris in the street.

Authorities were alerted to the situation around 2:45 p.m. local time. According to Oakland Police, two Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Police Department vehicles were involved in the crash.

“Several occupants of the vehicle were injured during the collision,” an OPD spokesperson said. He added, “Ambulance crews rushed to the scene to provide assistance and transport the injured to area hospitals for treatment.”

The authorities are still investigating the accident and the reasons that led to it.

“It is not known whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision,” the statement added.

OPD did not disclose whether BART officers were injured.
