Melbourne Stars speedster Brody Couch witnessed a scary moment during a match against the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 season. Brody Couch fell due to a bad landing from his bowling outing, but was not seriously injured and was able to return to his mark.
Melbourne Stars captain Marcus Stoinis won the toss and elected to play at Manuka Oval in Canberra on Saturday 28 December. Sydney Thunder started with 18 runs in the first two innings. Brodie Couch came in to bowl the third ball, and Cameron Bancroft received him for a six off the second ball.

Brody Couch faced a worrying moment during his bowling innings while delivering the third ball of the over. While trying to land, his right leg fell on his toe, disrupting his movement and causing him to stumble and fall.
The couch stayed on the floor for a short while and looked frustrated. Despite a “bad” fall, he eventually got back up and resumed his bowling. Fortunately, he avoided any serious injury.

Brody Couch came in to play in his second period on the power play. I threw the couch three times during the match. The right-arm pace bowler conceded 25 runs without picking up a single wicket.

Former Australian bowler Brett Lee has expressed concern about Brodie Koch’s downfall and described it as a scary experience. Lee highlighted the risk of serious injuries such as ankle or knee damage, especially without suitable spikes. Brendon Julian added that such incidents make a player eager for his next delivery.
“It’s happened on a few occasions – it’s quite scary! There are no screws – you could easily do an ankle or knee operation,” Brett told me.
“It makes you so nervous for the next ball. You almost hit the broken glass,” Brendon Julian said.
Sydney Thunder scored a total of 182 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Sam Billings was the top scorer for the Thunder with 72 runs off 39 balls, including nine boundaries and two sixes. Jason Sangha scored 33 runs off 27 balls with the help of three fours.
For Melbourne Stars, Beau Webster took three wickets for 42 runs, while Peter Siddle and Osama Mir took two wickets each. Joe Paris was the Stars’ most economical player, conceding 29 points in four appearances.
