David Benavidez says David Morell was complaining about being drug tested at their fight on February 1st, and believes he doesn’t want to be tested by VADA.
Interim WBA light heavyweight champion Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) is suspicious, saying WBA “regular” champion Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) might be worried “something might happen” in one of his tests.
Benavidez plays the PED card
Some fans see Benavidez’s complaints as early foundation building for PED excuse Early on to blame the potential loss of Morel on possible steroid use.
Once Benavidez mentions steroids during the build-up, people will look at Muriel’s victory with suspicion. Morrell wouldn’t even have to test positive for PEDs for people to think he was using them due to the association of steroids with his name during the building period.
Benavidez You will receive less Criticism from fans, and his stock wouldn’t drop as badly if they thought Morel was sloppy. It didn’t matter that Morel never tested positive for a steroid. Benavidez mentioning it during interviews would make people think Morell was using PEDS, and would taint his victory.
“When he fought, go look at the people he fought. They said they did VADA, they didn’t make David Morrell do VADA,” David Benavidez told MillCity Boxing. “There were two different fighters who did it.
“He tried to attack me because we were 13 weeks into the fight. When I fought Caleb Plant, we were 14 weeks into testing. Boo Boo Andrade is 14 weeks out. How does this guy (Morrell) come into his biggest fight ever and he doesn’t have to To do any VADA, he is already accused of steroid use.
“I’m not saying he’s doping or anything like that, but once you’re not trying to do a VADA test, it’s kind of weird. He also says he’s a lab rat because he’s being tested. That’s what it is. This is clean boxing. We’re doing VADA every week or every two weeks.
It would be best if Benavidez didn’t discuss PED issues before the fight because it seems as if he’s already planning on having an alibi if things don’t go his way in the fight with Morel.
“If you don’t like it, you’re probably doing something, or maybe you’re a little concerned that something might show up on these VADA tests,” Benavidez said. For me, I’ve been tested more than anyone else at VADA, and those are facts. I’ve been tested over 30 times, and have never complained. I never said I was a lab rat.
“This guy (Morrell) has barely been tested three times, and he says he’s a lab rat. You go and look at the fights and you look at the people accusing him. Me, I’ve never been accused of taking steroids. And then when you watch the press conference, as soon as I said, ‘Steroids, you You guys didn’t want to test,” and that’s when Louis Dekobas got up and started talking nonsense. Then they walked away.
“So, I don’t know. You guys be the judge of that. I point things out, but you guys won’t play me like I’m an idiot. If there are VADA tests, let’s do it, let’s have clean boxing,” Benavidez said.
